Arthur Murray Dance Center of Cranford continues a century-old tradition of teaching individuals and couples dance. Our professional, world-renowned dance instructors will have you on your feet, dancing to the rhythm before your big day or at your leisure. In addition to wedding dance lessons, we offer classes in a variety of specialty dance styles.

Polka

Polka has its roots in Central Europe in the region known as Bohemia. Couples perform this lively and vivacious style; it utilizes a basic pattern of hop-step-close-step, set to fast-paced accordion music.

Argentine Tango

Argentine Tango has a number of influences in Southern Europe and North America. It is often described as “walking to music with a partner,” but it is so much more than that. The best Argentine Tango dancers are able to evoke the feeling of the music through the movements in the dance. Unlike other dances that require rigid adherence to a pattern, the Argentine Tango encourages improvisation amongst couples.

Night Club 2-Step

This dance was developed in the late 1960s amidst the disco craze that was sweeping the nation. The dance revolves around the basic 2-step where the lead and partner rock on their feet for a beat. A great benefit of knowing the Night Club 2-Step is that it can be danced to many of the pop songs played at night clubs.

Slow Dance

The Slow Dance uses a combination of moves from other dance styles. It was specifically designed for couples to perform during slow songs at weddings, parties, and other venues. This dance emphasizes close contact between partners, and slow, rhythmic movements.
