With an experienced staff of highly trained professional dance instructors, the Arthur Murray Dance Center of Cranford is one of New Jersey’s preeminent dance studios. Building on the tradition of Arthur Murray dance classes, which date back over 100 years, we offer a wide range of classes in a state-of-the-art facility. Dancers of all ages and sexes are welcome, and our classes range from introductory to expert level. First-time students are eligible for a complimentary dance lesson as well. Along with traditional ballroom dancing styles, such as the Foxtrot, Tango, and Waltz, we also offer Latin and Rhythm dance instruction, and other specialty dance classes. One of the more popular styles is Country Western Dance, which can be found at nightclubs and parties across the nation.
Country Western Dance
The Country Western dance style, as we know it today, originated in the 1930s at state fairs, roadhouses, and dance halls. Most of the dances are evolutions of more traditional dances that have been tailored to fit the rhythm of Country Western music. Today, Country Western dancing is popular throughout the country and can be performed as a group, in tandem, or individually. In many cases, multiple different styles of Country Western dance will occur simultaneously on the same dance floor.
Country Western Styles
At the Arthur Murray Dance Center of Cranford, we offer a number of different Country Western dance styles. These include the Progressive Two-Step and Texas Two-Step, where one partner leads the other counterclockwise around the dance floor. Country Swing and West Coast Swing are upbeat dance styles that have origins in polka, jazz, blues, and cowboy music. The Country Western Waltz is a variation of the traditional Waltz, adapted to fit more modern music. We also teach the Country Shuffle and Country Triple.
